Check this out. These are some of the required codes of conduct for those guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier. Really makes you think. (for those of you (like me) who before this had no idea what this was, the tomb of the unknown soldier contains the un-identifiable remains of a soldier and serves as a monument to all the soldiers who have died and not been identified)
A guard takes 21 steps around the tomb, then waits 21 seconds before going the other way. This is in reference to the 21 gun salute. They keep their gloves wet so they don't lose their grips on their rifles. They carry the rifle on the shoulder facing away from the tomb. The guard is changed every 30 minutes 24/7 363 days a year.
the physical traits of the guard are limited to: he must be between 5' 10' an d 6' 2' tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30.' Other requirements of the Guard: They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives. They cannot swear in public for the rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform {fighting} or the tomb
in any way. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on
their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only
400 presently worn. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their
lives or give up the wreath pin. The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the
top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt.
There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform. Guards dress for duty
in front of a full-length mirror.
The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor
watch TV.
Every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for
guard duty.
This is all for dead people! I mean Holy cow I thought my standards were high. We serve the LIVING God. We should be so flipping excited and zealous for him that we melt other peoples faces with our enthusiasm (not really, but you get the point) bottom line is God deserves our respect, and I can think of no higher honor then serving him.
We need to get passionate about him. These guards though what they do is great. Rigidly stick to a set of rules. These rules do not bring life, but our God does. He brings us life to the fullest extent. Life such as we have never known, A LIFE THAT GETS DEEPER EVERY SINGLE DAY! COME ON PEOPLE! I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS LIKE THIS WHAT IS HOLDING US BACK!!!!!! WE NEED TO GET OUT THERE AND START MAKING A CHANGE IN THIS WORLD! and I'm talking to myself on this as well, this is an area I have a huge amount of trouble with. Don't get discouraged, much love to you all! Lean on his grace to show you how to be who he wants you to be.
